Guest Posted May 31, 2003 Share Posted May 31, 2003 With cars, its the selenoid that kicks the gear up, not sure if boat starters have selenoids. If they do that would be the problem I would bet. It would probably be a smaller piece connected to the starter, whith the wires attached to it. You can seperate them from the starter on cars, I would assume boats also. Guest Posted May 31, 2003 Share Posted May 31, 2003 Has anybody experienced a problem with the starter gear not sliding up when trying to start the motor. The gear just spins but does not slide up to engage in other gear. I have tried spray lubricant and a brand new battery without any luck.
