An MRI exam on Wednesday morning revealed the injury.

Jeff Marquez has been called up from Triple-A Charlotte.

Peavy took himself out of Tuesday's game against the Angels in the second inning with what was described as a strained right back muscle. After delivering a pitch, he jumped off the mound and raised his right arm. He then walked to the dugout with trainer Herm Schneider.

Peavy said he also felt discomfort in his June 30 start in Kansas City.

"I felt something in my last start," he said Tuesday. "We had something going on, some bruising in this area after my last start that we saw and treated.

"I saw the doctor, and had a little strain in there that we treated. played a little catch and knew I was going to feel it tonight and did a little bit. Obviously, I did more than feel it on that one pitch and I knew I was done.

"It's something up under my arm and it goes down into my lat. That's where I have some swelling and discomfort. That's where I felt it happen tonight."

The White Sox considered skipping Peavy's turn in the rotation June 17 at Pittsburgh because of a sore right shoulder, but after an MRI exam showed no damage, Peavy insisted on pitching two days later against Washington. He fired a three-hitter against the Nationals for his fourth career shutout.

"When you throw a pitch and you feel the way I felt during and after that pitch, it's just something I can't go on," Peavy said.

Peavy has had numerous injuries to his arm, including a strained right forearm in 2004 and a strained right elbow in 2008. Both injuries landed him on the DL. Peavy missed three months in 2009 with a strained right ankle.

After a slow start to his season, Peavy has been a key part of the White Sox's resurgence. He had a 3-2 record with a 1.75 ERA in June. On the season, he is 7-6 with a 4.63 ERA.

Not looking good if you are a Pale Hose fan, but if you look at what he has done so far he was only a .500 pitcher this year and stunk up the joint last year. Rumor is that Kenny is in some serious negotiations for Mr. Lee and it will not be a rent a player deal, he will be signed sealed and delivered for multi year before coming over. Kenny and Ozzie did the same thing with Freddie Garcia when they originally signed him. His deal was done before the trade was made.

Get R Done Kenny!

Even without Peavy, right now I would take the Sox rotation in a heart beat over the Twins..... maybe we can deal for Peavy and have him pitch with the detatched muscle.... then again we already have Baker, Blackburn and Slowey, so I guess we have that covered!

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
