Guest
Enjoy reading your posts! I am going to be in Ely May 15th-26th. Just wondering what lakes to check out mainly for Walleyes and bigger smallies. Maybe hit the spring Northern fishing too.

Guest
i believe shagawa is a great lake in Ely. My grandparents owned that beuty of a house on Sandy Point until a couple of years ago they had to sell it(taxes). I fished that lake for quite a few years and did very well on walleyes, pike, and smallies. Opener should be great up there. the last opener that i fished there 6 of us caught our limit of 2 pound eyes in about 3 hours. no lie. couple 5 pounders in the bunch. Troll with spinners tipped with a minnow in 6 to 8 feet of water where the waves are blowing towards shore. This forces bait to move shallow and so do the walleyes. Try the North and Northwest side of the lake. Farm Bay is a good spot. Youre guaranteed eyes on shagawa. Hope this helps.

Yaeger Guide
If I ever get close to Vermilion, I fish it for smallies. Haven't been there in years, but it is worth the time. Hire www.GarytheGuide.com. I am sure he is worth it. There is way too much of Vermilion to hit with no prior knowledge. Too many possibilities to waste precious time.... Just a thought from a metro guide wishing Vermilion was closer.------------------God bless,Judd YaegerYaeger Guides (Twin Cities Guides) www.yaegerweb.com/guide
