Trinidad 16N Tricks?

Recommended Posts

Now that I actually had a chance to spend a couple days on the water with my new reel, I can say I love this reel. The speed, power, and build is awesome. For some reason though, my line likes to build up on the left side of the spool. During the retrieve, my rod tip is pointed straight at the bait. Is there something I am missing in my technique? Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the saltist 30th (non-levelwind) and I found that it helps to point the rod to the left every so often. I realize that it's not ideal and certainly doesn't help with the strain on the hand holding the rod but I can help to get the line back on track.

I haven't had the pleasure of setting the hook on a fish yet with the non-levelwind, but I have a feeling there will be a few cuss words the first time I screw up a hookset because the line jumped on me.

jury is still out the reel for me, it certainly has it's benefits for sure.

i have a trinidad 16 and i found that if you point it to the left or straight at it, it will spool up just fine. i have not had it load up on me yet. after a while you start to do it without even thinking or looking at the reel.

My buddy has the same reel and he has no problems. I did notice he is using a different line that is staying nice and round, where mine is getting kinda flat and twisted. I am gonna spool up with what he has and hopefully that will help too.
