Triple D vs Grandma Baits

I am looking to add a deeper diving crank/jerk bait to my arsenal. I'm sure many will say get both but I can only get one this year. Just wondering if there is a preference out there amongst muskie anglers. Mainly will be fishing in clear water, 8' and deeper off weed edges.

Thanks

The triple D has been better for me. I like the bait because it suspends. So I rip it over the weeds, or down off the weedline. I use it really erratically to trigger bites, and then make sure that I pause it often because that is when they usually nail it.

I also have caught a number of fish trolling with it too.

Two totally different baits, and both have their place. If I were you I'd go take a look at the other two main musky sites in the buy/sell. You can often get them quite a bit cheaper from someone who doesn't use a particular bait anymore. Or perhaps you've got something you don't use that you could trade.

As mentioned they are different enough that I would suggest eventually getting both. I cast, twitch/rip, and troll both with good success. The DDD kicks out more than the grandma when twitched and works good over and around structure but because it is near neutral bouyant it won't back out of cover. Grandmas are great for cranking down into the deep stuff and letting it back out when required. Grandmas get deeper than Jakes and float back up slower. Again different features for different situations. Check out the used bait sections or even sporting stores right now. I just bought a new 9" grandma for $5 at Gander Mountain.
