brake lights sticking on 300m

Recommended Posts

We have a 99 chrysler 300m with aprox 120,000 miles and the last couple of mornings we see the brake lights stuck on .

My wife made sure they were not on when she came in last night and this a.m. the were on again . Not sure if it is a sensor or if a old battery is not sending some type of signal to release! Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

Your switch might be out of adjustment, or just starting to go out.

If you look under the dash by the brake pedal arm, you will see the switch. You might have to remove the cover to gain access to it.

The other thing that might be happening is the bushing that is part of the push rod for the brake booster is warn out. You should be able to see that when you look up under the dash. Check to see how much movement the pedal makes before the push rod moves. This will tell you if the bushing is bad, or worse case, the pin has a groove worn into it from the bushing being bad for too long.

One way to check for this, is to pull back on the brake pedal. If the light goes out, check for the worn parts listed above.

Just a couple things I would check first.
