  1. Today was my first day, I got setup about 5:00 in a windy cold and wet morning. I did not hear or see a bird till 9:50 when I seen 2 hens with a big tom in tow across the feild. I decided to check out a couple of other hay feilds the first one I came to had 3 toms and a hen working there way towards me so I crawled up next to the fence and they came to within 20 yards. I took the one that looked to be the largest of the 3. Not the most exciting hunt but still memorable. Stats on the bird Beard-10" Weight-20 13/16 Spurs-7/8
  2. Congratulations Nightcrawler Sounds like everyone had a great time.
  3. Hey Dan/Brian I'll be hunting after both of you, 339-F in MN and Zone 19 May 14-18 in Wisconsin. I like the sound of PUT'n and STRUT'n or Full Strut. Doing some scouting this weekend hopefully I can post a pic of a big tom I have been seeing. Roger
  4. Wandering I would recommend getting bare root apple trees from Steve Nursery in Elk River, they usually have them available very early spring. I have Honey Crisp, Haralson and McIntosh that I am very happy with. If you plant them as soon as they are available and we have a normal spring I think you would be OK. I do not spray any of my trees and found the trees out in the open do very well without any type of spraying needed. You will have to put a small fence around them to keep rabbits away for the first couple of years, and pick some of the apples off until the branches become strong enough to support them.
  5. Second year in a row for 339 period F. Good luck to everyone.
  6. You can bow hunt the last two periods in any zone that allows more than 50 permits. I was drawn 339-A
  7. If I was looking for another blind I would buy a Final Approach SUB they are a very well made blind, lots of room and comfortable. You can find them in feild brown (you grass them anyways) on hsolist for $139.00 plus shipping.

    Torn ACL

I just had the TPLO surgery done on my WPG at Granite City Pet Hosp, very happy with the service and results. He had the surgery about 10 weeks ago and seems to be back to normal. The surgery was $500.00 less than what you where quoted. Roger
  9. Very well written...Dixie does look a little tired. Roger
  10. I asked a CO this 5 years ago and was told it was, as long as you stay on the water.

    New Pup

Labs Is the cocker from F. Koehne? I remember seeing his dogs run in the pheasant tournaments.
  12. Gunner will be 17 this December. I plan on taking him out for duck opener and let him retrieve one or two hopefully and then retire him. It will be sad Gunner has been by far the best dog that I have had. Thanks for the help with the grass it is looking great again. Roger
  13. Dave I own 2 Boykins a 16 year old male and a 8 year old female. I have never owned a English Cocker but I have hunted with a couple. I would say that the Boykin is a little slower covering ground in the uplands but a better water retriever, they still are great flushers. Boykin males are bigger than cockers and are available with different coats, curly, wavey and flat. If you get a curly Boykin they are pretty well suited for late season duck hunting, my male would sit out in the open on the front of my boat watching the sky completely covered with ice and was as happy as a dog could be. Let me know if you have any other questions.
  14. The Crow and the Rum have a couple of smallies also.
  15. Gills I found a neoprene vest that I use on my Griffon that only uses velcro down the back to hold it on, I added a couple of strips of velcro so I could make it tighter around his stomach. I think it is a Cabelas brand there isn't a name on it. Roger
  16. This will be my first fall turkey hunt, second season of zone 339. Is it pretty much just setting up on travel routes and feeding areas or do they respond at all to calling? I see Joel will be doing a seminar planning on attending. I plan on using my bow, anyone else? Roger
  17. Anyone seen any B&B Pin Oaks, looking for a couple of 2-3 inch in the west metro. I have been checking around Monticello/Buffalo/Elk River with no luck. If you have seen some please post up. Thanks Roger
  18. I bought one 3 years ago, it is not of the same quality as the name brands like FA, but it is big/comfortable and sets ups pretty fast. I do have some rips and seams tearing open. If you mud and grass it, it looks good. I will be buying a SUB this season and my kids will use the Interceptor when they go.

  20. LABS4ME/Ken Heard you on the FAN today talking about Red Lake, I was up there this last weekend pretty slow till about 8:30 Saturday night picked 7 in about an hour between 13 and 14.5 inches. Are you saying I can buy a bow turkey permit for any zone as long as it is for the last 2 time periods? Roger
