  1. I was riding with a guy that had just bought a Polaris 4-stroke Indy Classic 750. I ride a RS Venture Yamaha and wanted to drive the Polaris and we switched for bit. I have never driven a sled that was such a dog in my life. I have a 8 horse ski-doo that accelerates faster,I'm not sure it could do over 50mph, the rear view mirrors were useless. Even for a 4-stroke, which should be quiet. I could not say it was quiet, clutch noise, vibrated, exhaust noise, I don’t have enough time to type the inequalities from the Yamaha sleds. You couldn’t give one to me. The guy got off mine and couldn’t believe it. I’m not sure he isn’t trying to get ride of his.
  2. If there is a hazzard that you can not avoid or would be hazardous to cross you can ride the shoulder but must return to the ditch as soon as posable. Even in the DNR's safety videos to show students that if they have to cross abridge how to do it correctly. I think it is about 100 feet before the bridge and after, or sa soon as it would be safet to get back into the ditch.
  3. There is a law that you are not supposed to go any faster than 10 mph with in 100 feet of a one fishing etc. on the ice. You can snowmobile any where on ice but that law is there.
  4. I have one and love it!! You can do what ever you think you want. In Minnesota the seed limet is 50 not 500 for some of you. No it does about 85 and I'm 300lbs. I have left many 600-700-800 cc machines in the dust in the bumps. Stand up and bump through them it's like they aren't even there. I also have much larger sleds and love to ride them too. As to say it's a childs sled I really wounder how long and how many sleds some of you have riden. Don't take me wrong on some of those coments but I have driven most every new sled and that Phazer holds it's own. 15-18 mpg 85mph any time you want it, the power will pull just as hard at 20 as it does at 50, and lets see how many mpg any 2-stroke 500 thru the big boys get, maybe even 400 for that matter. For the money, performance, ride and every thing else you will like it. If you want to go way faster but the Nitro or something bigger but the price goes up too.
  5. Erevy road has a road right of way. Usually 33 feet from the center of the road. Really that is public land. You can only ride the bottom and the outer slope of a ditch. Not the inner slope or shoulder. At night you are supposed to follow traffic. I am a snowmobile safety instructor and visc president of a club and we get this question all the time. The ditch is really not the supposed land owners. There is a piblic right of way in every ditch.
  6. I groom, and if people would keep EVEN throttle and NOT hit the gas in the corners everyone would have much better trails. Some will never get it. Most people have to return on the same trail they started on and can't figure out why the trails are so bumpy when they return.
  7. You may need to check the carb boots and make sure they are not cracked. Then check if there is an electrical plug in for the throttle sticking, some may have had it. My 90 Exciter does. Un plug it and make a jumper wire to short it out so you will have spark again. Again I'm not sure yours will have that but they did put them on back then. Also check the thumb throttel and make sure the pivet isn't frozen it is also a kill switch if frozen and will do funny things if not free moving. And last but not least check for the crank seals leaking it really sounds to me that thats your problem. Look for leaking oil frof around the crank by the clutch. You won't see behind the flywheel. The seals dry out and leak air lean out the engine, heat it up and may quit, cool down and start again. IT WILL BURN DOWN IF NOT FIXED. It may have run fine when you put it away last year or before that. It really sounds to me that that will be the problem. That will mean an overhaul. Do it before it fries and you may get by with just a full gasket set with seals and rings. Remember it's older.
  8. I believe it has disc brakes and after sitting over the summer maybe the caliper slid pins rusted and the caliper is not sliding as it should. If it has thas the lever and ramp style check and see if the ramp is rust free and lubricated. If you lossened the bleed screw on your sled now you will need to bleed it after you find where it's binding. If you opened the system it now has air in it. That allowed the pressure to let the brakes off but did not solve your problem. Hope that helps.
  9. It will smoke a bit more and could foul a plug. Most likly being new you won't notice any thing. If you don't want to do 50:1 do the 100:1 that's not much oil any way. It is good insurance it won't score a piston, do to the extra heat from being new.
  10. My '05 RS venture gets 18+ with normal trail riding, less if riding hard. That's a far cry from the 7 to 9 I was getting with a 600 Venture, or old Exciter I have. I also have a New Phazer that gets about 15-16 mpg.
  11. Usually the dealer does it and really never say any thing about it. It's to give the engine a little more oil because it's so tight, it will cool it down alittle.
  12. First how much play is there if you move the driven clutch? If it moves 1/2 to 1 inch your most likley ok If it seem to bind, loosen it, If it klunks tighten it. If it goes in gear and work ok leave it alone. Hope that helps. And I am a mechanic so I really do mean What I said
  13. With todays oils yoiu wouldn't need to mix any richer than 40:1, you most likley wouldn't have any problems, with normal running with 50:1. Find a good oil you like and mix it 40:1 That's 16oz. oil to 5gal gas. I have 6 sled even older and have had no problems.
  14. That's cool what will some one think of next!!
  15. I have a large and a med. They are great make sure that you get the High faxes and cover you may have things fly out even if you are careful. I just looked at them today for cost and I think the large wes $120-130 That may have been the one larger than the large however. They seem to just keep going up in price every year so jump when you can.
  16. I really do want every one to please get envolved Help clear trails, You will be able to ride your wheeler on the trail and not get in trouble. With the group that is. Come on and enjoy the great out doors. Find the local club you can help.
  17. Some of the Artiva stuff seem to be larger than some companies stuff.
  18. Remember everone now is the time of year that clubs really need your help cleaning up the trails we all ride on. Please get envolved!! Try it you'll like it
  19. It sounds like points and condencer, your most likely. How did they govenor the thing to work on a splitter. something sounds funny there, as to just what engine you have.
  20. As a Vise President of a snowmobile club please don't close it!! Ask the local club to fence it gate it sign it what ever it takes to stop what you don't like happening. They I'm sure will do what ever it takes to help you. Please ask them for help before you think of closing a trail that many, many good apples can still enjoy. Thanks
  21. Ok everyone, summer is over and fall and winter will come very fast and our sport of snowmobiling will be with us again. If you are a member of a snowmobile club good, get more involved if you can in your club. If you are not in a club, PLEASE,PLEASE get involved. The club members that keep our trails open need help. In most clubs about 6-8 hard working people are left with the majority of the work and then they get burnt out quickly. If you have thought about joining a club before and just never did anything about it, Please do it this time you will have fun, meet good new people you will soon call friends and your trails you like to ride on will be safer and better prepared for the up coming season. Trail clean up in the fall is the hardest to get done because the fall outdoor activities are so abundant no one has time for a little extra work. Most clubs can get this done in one or two days. Trails need to have all the fallen branches and trees removed and bridges inspected for safety and signage repaired/replaced. It is a time that you can ride your atv on the trail and not get in trouble for it. If you have all local enforcement notified etc. It will also give you satisfaction that you helped. Only one day or a half day of your time makes a difference. I am the Vise President of the Over the Hill Night Riders club in Hermantown; our club really needs new members. The over the hill thing is so true. No offence to any of our members, but we really, really need people that would like to get involved and help. If you don’t want to groom, don’t, just do what you can or like to. If you live in the Duluth area and would like to help me 729-7687 ask for Jim. Please everyone Help support our sport our season isn’t that far away. Let it snow!!
  22. Playing with props is the best way to get the best performance from your boat and motor. Look up the top rpm and match a prop that hits that rpm to just over it, you then have the prop matched to the boat. Check cornering and trim you will find a lot of difference in props and prop designs. A good dealer will be able to tell you about the prop size that will get close to the rpm’s. Different prop companies will also make a big difference, try them out. If you have a good dealer they will let you try it and if you don’t do any thing to it they will take it back and let you try another pitch or brand. Outboards today will cut out when the rpm’s are going to hurt the engine. Dealers love to put a prop that will not reach the max rpm’s because people don’t usually know, and a soom that what they gave you is all there is. Play with props and you can really make a boat come alive.
  23. I have a Honda 2000 watt and the same 20 amp charger you do and unless my batteries are dead I can run it on the eco mode which is the low rpm. We last week end even had another 10 amp charger on at the same time no problem. The Honda is awesome quiet and only takes about two hours to charge the batteries used all day. I would spend the extra money. I still don't know how long my 2000 will go on eco mode, I know it has run over 10 hours on less than a gallon of gas. I bought my generator for the same thing to charge while camping. I also bougth lights and those energy saving bulbs and i don't bring lanterns any more. The generator is charging while we are sitting around the fire, and usually done by the time we go to bed.
  24. I had a 2000 and sold it three years ago for $1200. arn't they about $1800 new. I would think $1350 would be reasonable. Every thing cost money to own, you will loose a little. If it helps
  25. You must have working lights on any and every trailer. Trailers over the 80" wide mark need the three lights. If the trailer is big enough, or can carry enough weight it will have to have brakes. I don't know just what the weight requirement is for that. You were lucky if stopped and not ticketed for no lights.
