  1. My first archery buck, taken on October 24th. Was nervous at first as the shot looked slightly high. Watched him run about 60 yards, then he fell over, so I was able to confirm he was down without ever leaving the stand. Ended up being a perfect shot through the lungs, and while field dressing I noticed the heart had a nice 1 inch gash through it. It was a pretty great feeling to finally get a buck with the bow! He is a main frame 10 with an 11th kicker on the right side.
  2. Slow Saturday morning, but I always like having to break ice!
  3. Thanks for the replies, especially regarding the Howard Leight and Combats. My plan is to try the Combats, as they are less than $20. If those don't work, I am going to try Surefire Sonic Defenders, as I have a good review from a close friend, and are also less than $20. If those options fail, I will try the Howard Leights, as they are affordable and have good reviews.
  4. Over the past few years, my ears tend to ring more often and for longer periods during the hunting season. I figured I should probably attempt to protect the hearing I still have. Does anyone have any specific recommendations for hearing protection while duck hunting? I do want to be able to talk/listen with buddies while hunting, so a complete muffle is not an option for me. I have been meaning to take care of this since last years hunting season, but I wait until the last minute...what gives?
  5. Brand New, assembled, never used. Does not have a seat/bench or a cover. Love the size of the house, just don't need it. $250
  6. Does anyone have any experience using the floating Mojo? I have read some mixed reviews on them. Was planning on getting the original stake mounted version, but then noticed a combo package available at one of the retailers. Any thoughts?
  7. Would anyone happen to know if a Thermal-X replacement tent fit onto a Voyager sled? On the manufacturer HSOforum, the size specifications given are exactly the same (setup, height, packable). I have received feedback from customer service that they do not believe it will work. The individual really couldn't explain sufficiently why it would not work though. I have the Voyager model with the trap-link door on the back. I use this feature quite often, and the Thermal-X is the only tent that seems to have both the thermal and trap-link features. Thanks!
  8. As much as I want to get the plow, I have come to this realization as well. Now I get to compare blowers!
  9. Thanks for the response. I think I am convinced of getting the plow. They are cheaper than the blowers I have been looking at anyway.
  10. Hello, I am in the market for a new snow removal toy. I currently have a pretty typical residential driveway, but plan on moving somewhere with a bigger driveway within 5 years. I already have an ATV. My question is for those who have ATV's with a plow. Do you like them? What size would you recommend for a 600? Steel or Poly? Brands? Or would I be better off just sticking with a snow-blower? Thanks!
  11. I never wash my deer hunting outerwear. I store it in a rubbermaid container with scent wafers (earth or cedar). I only put these items of clothing on when I get out of the truck.
  12. I am with 96 trigger on this...I received the exact opposite answer to this question from a CO a few years back.
  13. Or "to provoke reports of a Bigfoot sighting"... http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/m...300b_story.html
  14. Although not about whitetails, check out Dropped-Project Alaska if you can find it. The new episodes were all aired earlier this summer. It is definately a nice change of pace from your typical hunting show.
  15. I just came across this grill yesterday, and wondering if anyone had pulled the trigger and purchased yet?
  16. BoxMN, if you dont mind, send me an email: vokal19@hotmail
  17. I have had questions on this subject as well. I rifle & muzzle-load hunt in a Managed area. Lets assume I shoot a doe during the rifle season. If I want to be able to tag a buck during the muzzle-loader season, do I have to tag my doe during the rifle season with a purchased bonus tag? I have always been under the assumption that once you use your either sex tag, you are no longer allowed a buck? Is this correct?
  18. Our lab also had problems with Giardia. The medication from the Vet would get rid of it easily, but she would keep getting it. Our vet finally gave her a vaccination for it, and it has not returned since. We have since changed Vets though, and the new one does not carry the vaccination, so it must be something that all Vets don't agree on??
  19. Hookmaster - that is definately the best homemade option I have seen. Since you plan on making one, how long are you going to make the legs?
  20. I know this topic has been discussed before, but I thought I would start it again. I am looking for a stand to keep my dog out of the water while hunting. I searched related topics in past forums, and it seemed that there were not many homemade solutions. Is everyone just buying the expensive stands (Ruff, etc)? Or has anyone come up with a decent homemade solution? Any help is greatly appreciated.
  21. Thanks for the help guys! Leaving for ND in about 10 hours. Can't wait for round 2...
  22. She is slightly over 1 1/2 now, but was probably 8-9 months in that picture. We got her from a guy in Princeton. I believe Darren was his name. She was a birthday present from the wife, so I had limited contact with the breeder.
  23. Wondering if anyone has any tips on the use of Mojos within your decoy spread. We primarily hunt small potholes. We only have 1 Mojo and typically put out 12-15 mallard decoys. We have been using two small groups of decoys off to each side with the Mojo in the middle somewhere. Are there different decoy formations that you have had success with in the past? Where to put the Mojo in relation to the rest of the decoys? How high off the water for the Mojo? Any hints/tips are appreaciated. Thank you!
  24. Great idea! I don't want to steal the post, but would like to know some suggestions as to what everyone else does for stabilization?
