Guest
I was out fishing a lake I have reguary fished the fast couple years and caught many crappies. When I got out there for the first time this year I found a pressure ridge had formed all across the lake right next to the spot. We didn't catch anything this time. Does all the noise from the pressure ridge when the temp. gets below freezing scare fish? I was in 15-20 feet of water if that helps. Thanks
Guest
I fished a pressure ridge the other day when it rained and did very well on crappies there was water running through it almost like spring. When it is cold (and banging) they will not be there in that depth look deeper caught most now in 28-30 ft sounds like a freight train I think they dont like it but not positive. GOODLUCK
crappie todd
I was fishing a small shallow lake a few weeks back.12 feet deep. At Sunset the lake began booming and cracking. The crappies were not affected buy the noise. It was surprising to note that while the fish approached the jig and a loud noise from straining ice, the fish completed it's mission of inhaling the jig. Guest
I can't speak for the fish, but it doesn't do a whole lot for MY pucker factor!!!
ackotz
I have to agree with the "pucker factor"...however, the cracking of ice I imagine is a natural phenomenon to them, because I've also seen the fish NOT get terribly spooked by it. I have noticed fish distinguish "un-natural" sounds though. I've watched them scatter as cars, ATV's, snowmobiles, and people roll by...
Big Dave2
Last year I was on a small lake near Hackensack and I have never heard louder ice than that, but the crappies and northerns that we were catching continued to bite. we were in shallow water too, about 8 to 10 ft. Then all of a sudden we could hear a noise like the whole lake was cracking at once, that continues for several minutes. The fish just turned right off and wouldnt bite any more. When we went outside to investigate this noise it turned out to be fireworks from a neighboring town! In the middle of winter!I was ticked off that the fish quit biting but I was relieved that the lake was not opening up to swallow us in!
