buying frozen bait for tip ups

My kids and I caught 3 - 4 dozen river chubs last summer, (6-8 inchers). They were real fun to catch, and I salted em down and threw them in the freezer for this winter.Any one tried salted dead bait? I don't know how they'll work but just thought I'd give it a try as the salted plastic baits seem to work pretty well. I've tried frozen smelt and ciscoes in the past for big pike.

Just wondering where there is a good place to buy large frozen minnows for tip ups? Can you buy them at most bait shops? Also, what is everyones recommended minnow? I have heard ciscoes, but just wanted to get everyone elses thoughts. Thanks guys.

I periodically use frozen smelt when I am fishing tip-ups for big pike. You can find them at most grocery stores.
