HOGEYE
Anyone ever tried this?
Guest
Yup, sure have. A good trick for pike, muskie, and walleye is to work a trap very near a tip-up set. The pike & muskie will smack them traps just because they tick them off, walleye will too at times. But the traps will often hog call the fish in close so they go for the the easy bait hanging on the tip-up. I like traps that have a thump more then a clatter, the Millennium Look Alike is one of those type style thump-er's.[Editors Note: The Rattle Traps do clatter. The Millennium Look-A-Like Rattle Shads are hard rubber coated and are a more thump style, hence less spooking more attraction. You can see them in the Crank Section by Clicking here It is a great trick for stained water. ------------------Backwater Eddy..><sUMo> Backwater Guiding"Ed on the RED"(701)-281-2300[email protected] http://ed-carlson.fishingbuddy.com [This message has been edited by Rick (edited 11-13-2002).]
Steve Foss
I'm going to have to try that. Got a bunch of rattlin raps I use for open-water eyes, and jigging hard, I've found, is often a great technique, not only to trigger the aggressive fish with the jigging, but to attract neutral fish that pass the lure but take the live minnow on the bobber/deadstick/tip-ups. Going to have to find room in the ice tackle box for a few of those rattlers, I reckon. ------------------Steve FossSuperior, Wis.[email protected]
Guest
Hey Hogeye, I had raised this issue a couple of weeks ago.I have caught fish, mostly crappie, on a 1/4 oz. blue/chrome rattle trap. You'll want to change to mustad triple grip hooks.

Guest
I have a special rod just for Ripping traps and big blade baits. RIP_RIP_RIP.....(pause).....RIP_RIP_RIP. Not a finesse type deal at all. For pike or muskie I am spooled up with 10/50 PowerPro with at least a 20" steel or Titanium leader with a good swivel on top. Have the drag set to slip slightly on the set. I use SUMO sized Mag traps, especially for pike. I have some new Millennium SUMO traps that I am eager to RIP on some toothy critter waters this winter. Rip them buggers too Eh, like your starting a chain saw..RIP-RIP-RIP..."SMACK"! It is a hoot! ------------------Backwater Eddy..><sUMo> Backwater Guiding"Ed on the RED"(701)-281-2300[email protected] http://ed-carlson.fishingbuddy.com
SpikeRoberts
This sounds great! I'll have to give it a try. Do you down-size in the winter? Do you add any meat when using the raps? I'm always looking to get an edge up on my fishing partners
