rattlereel
I just purchased a new home that doesn't have a lawn. I would like to go with seeding. Should I have it Hydroseeded or should I buy some grass seed?
dakotakid31
you should also consider slit seeding. i had it done when our house was new. the lawn was nice and thick...until i got a female choc lab... looks like he11 now. but it did work very good. i think u can rent them. i had mine done. Powerstroke
Obviously hydroseeding is much easier and probably a bit more effective since you're not doing the work and its a seed/mulch blend and deepending on the blend can contain fertilizer too. Doing it yourself will be cheaper, but the time committment can be a factor. Not sure how big your place is, but you should find out since you'll need to know for soliciting bids or at least for planning materials. Both will have similar results. Neither is perfect and both will require touchups for bare or thin spots. I personally would pay for hydroseeding and make it someone elses problem. I don't make a lot of money, but it is more about my time. I don't have a lot of it so I try to use it wisely. If push came to shove you can do it yourself with about a days work or maybe a weekend. If you do it yourself, buy more seed than you think. Using more seed can't hurt.
