Walleye fishing Lake Michagan

My wife got tickets to chicago nascar race in july, Im not a big race fan, but I will suffer through it. Although I had an idea! If Im going to be in chicago, why not fish? I want to try walleye fishing on Lake Michagan while in chicago. But I went on some of the web sites for charters and guides for Lake Michagan, but they dont even list walleye, just salmon, and trout mostly. Is there no good walleye fishing in the sw part of the lake? Does anyone one know of a good guide, or charter boat that would aim at catching big walleyes? I wont be bringing my boat. Anyone have any info it would be appreciated! Thanks much!

I've lived in Michigan for a few years and never heard about any walleyes being caught out of there. On the other hand, Saginaw bay on lake Huron can produce some huge and numerous numbers of walleyes. Try posting in the michigan forum and see what the local guys have to say.

Thanks k dawg for the reply, I would love to go to Huron fishing, but that would be a bit of a drive from chicago, for a day of fishing. I was hoping there were some eyes in lake michigan but as I was finding out, it wasnt looking good. I guess I will just suck it up and spend the weekend doing race stuff with the wife! That might get me an extra fishing trip this year if I do that!

Juuuuuuust a tad north of Chicago you may want to try your hand at some salmon.

I grew up next to Lake Michigan. And have never heard of people going out for walleye fishing.

Lake Trout and Salmon are the popular fish.

Hit Waukegan just north of Chicago, the Kings are just starting to move in and the action is great. Just do a web search for Salmon charters in Waukegan/chicago area. We did it the first week of august and had 8 guys limits in 4 hours with the biggest King at 28#. Otherwise, your out of luck on the eyes.

Hit the salmon run. It is an awesome experience and they are some of the best tasting fish. Just use lemon juice. My mouth is watering. Ummmmmmmmmmmmm.

I seen they have trout also, are these big lake trout?

I don't know your history, but if you are a vet, go to the Great Lakes Naval Station, just north of Waukegan. They have both salmon and trout charters there for not too bad of $$$.

I'd just give me the nascar tickets and you can go fish some walleyes else where From what I've heard its a trout and salmon deal that far down on Lk Mic. I think they do get some eyes up higher around the Green Bay area. Good luck and no matter what anyone tells ya, root for the #24 car

I may just end up fishing salmon, never did it! You never know I may just find another hobby, that I so much need. The wife likes #8, so yes I have to root for #24, just to make it competitive, although, I really dont care! But I wont let the wife know that.

or is right. The walleyes on lake michigan are in Green Bay. I watched a TV show this morning and thats were they were fishing for em. If you get into the salmon, they are awesome fighters. I sure miss fishing for those things. Just remember to save up for your liscens and trout stamp.
