any muskie ice fisherman?

I fish for them on occasion out on Minnetonka but would rather catch them in open water. I dont know anything about how much stress it puts the muskie under and would hate to have a nice fish floppin on the ice and then not have it swim away. I know the cold water helps alot...fall fish always seem to swim away great with alot of strength to them. Always, the way I fish for muskies on just by fishing for Crappies and them putting tip-ups out scattered around where i am fishing. I keep my meat hanging from 1-6 feet down. The muskies will see/feel the fish you are reeling up and alot of times will follow it up. If all works correctly, you get to keep the crappie, and the muskie will take a tip-up.

My roomate will get one a year out of his house on west battle. usaully they will hit a shiner minnow. Nothing better than watching that rattle reel take off and burning your hands on the teflon coated tip up line trying to get a hold of it.

But to answer your question, no I have never targeted them. I have no idea where to look for them. And winter is big walleye time for me.
