Dave
State's ATV policiesTwo environmental and conservation groups have appealed the recent certification of Minnesota's forests by an international body because of the state's ATV policies. The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy (MCEA) and the Izaak Walton League of America say that DNR policies allow off-road vehicles to create unplanned ATV trails throughout most of the state's forests. And that is incompatible with certifying the state's forests as well-managed and sustainable. The complaint was sent to the Forest Stewardship Council in Germany, which earlier had certified the state's forests."DNR's off-highway-vehicle policy allows unplanned trail proliferation that hurts our public lands, waters, and wildlife, and degrades the high-quality outdoor experience that Minnesotans want," Matt Norton, forestry advocate for MCEA, said in a news release.
