Gold chip?

outdoor ran

Question

Kinda curious of what others think of the gold navionics chip. I do alot of fishing on the great lakes so I went with this chip. I put it in a globalmap 3500c and I'm kinda diappointed in the chip. It has hardly no detail on the lakes and the depth readings go from ft to mt. Not sure what that means. I was told i could get all of LK mich and I can only get the top part. In fact I only get 4 lakes on the whole thing. Lk Superior, half of Lk mich LOTW and rainy lake

Am i running this chip wrong or did I just blow two hundred bucks?

Let's wait some other replies, but don't feel alone. I did same thing for my Garmin GPS/Sonar, bought the Mapsource program for Great Lakes and I barely have Duluth and north shore, I needed Wisconsin side of Michigan and it's extra money. Once opened software I cannot return it.....

I feel your pain.....

You probably have to go into your map data menu to recall the particular section of the map you would like to use. Unlike some of the other chips, some of the gold cards are sectioned off into differant map sections of data and you need to pull up the correct one for the location you are in. Also, some of the higher resolution depth contours will not appear on your screen until you are sufficiently zoomed, and will only do so if you are on one of the lakes that are mapped in higher definition. The Great Lakes are probably not.

When I bought the chip I got an offer for a free fish-n-chip so I sent for it. Well it came in the mail and I threw it in the unit. Wow, what a difference it makes. I now have all the contours for the big lakes. Exactly what I was looking for. Sweet...... cool.gif
