howell151
Does anyone have any insight/predictions to the grouse population this year?
Riverratpete
Based on what I encountered last year I would say they were definatley on the upswing in numbers but of course time will tell and of course prime habitat is and will always produce more. If we can get them to keep from going to this silly european model of timber managment we should continue to have great grouse hunting during the normal cycle times
2thepointsetters
From what I have seen and heard while out training the dog in the past couple weeks it looks like this year could be pretty good. I have heard several drumming each night I went out in the woods behind my house and I even heard two drummimg while crappie fishing on Lake Vemilion last Thursday. The DNR projects better numbers than last year also.
jbdragon17
I saw a grouse in Zimmerman a couple weeks ago!! I also believe the population is stronger than it has been in a long time. I had the dog on at least 50 birds last season. I saw a LOT of grouse deer hunting in the same area. I am excited to get out there this year.
