Dave Posted March 6, 2006 Share Posted March 6, 2006 Roseau County to host OHV open house March 6Beltrami Island planning effort moving forward,commissioners sayRoseau County Commissioners Alan Johnston and RussellWalker will host an open house to update the public onmotorized planning efforts in the Beltrami Island StateForest. The open house will be held from 12:00 to 8:00p.m. on Monday, March 6 at the Warroad Public SafetyFacility.Planning team members, including Commissioners Johnston andWalker, report that the Beltrami Island planning effort ismoving forward. To date, the planning team has reviewedforest access routes in seven townships and will have mapsof proposed route and road designations available forreview at the open house. A new BISF planning team was formed in January and includesrepresentatives from the Minnesota Department of NaturalResources (DNR), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service andcounty commissioners from Roseau, Lake of the Woods andBeltrami counties. The team has also been exchanginginformation with the Red Lake Band DNR. The seven townships that have been reviewed include Oaks,Clear River, America, Beaver, Elkwood, Reine and oneunorganized (T160N R37W) township.Some routes will be field checked this spring by members ofthe planning team before final recommendations are made. The group is striving to provide opportunities formultiple kinds of recreational uses in the state forest. The Warroad Public Safety Facility is located at 802 CherneDr. NW.
