Mossberg O/U

Anybody have or know anybody that has one of the new Mossberg O/U shotguns? I am looking at getting a new gun for next season and thought they might be worth a look. I am having trouble getting the Boss to OK $1000+ for a new gun and would like to try an O/U? Any input is appreciated.

I have a CZ Redhead dlx O/U that I've been very happy with $700 I looked at the mossbergs they seemed nice then I did some research on them and they seem to have some problems take a look on the forums at "shotgunworld" there is a bunch of info on them there

The only experience I have with them is looking at them at a DU banquets. Please take my view with a grain of salt as I have never shot one. (I have had good luck with the Mossberg semiauto I won at a DU banquet)

Mossberg seems to want to have the features and look of the mainstream OU manufacturers. They have the inlays and engraved scenes etc. However the engraving, scenes, wood and checkering didn't seem up to the class of a Browning or Beretta. I cannot comment on the shootability or reliabilty. Now granted the Mossberg OU does not cost what a Browning or Beretta costs but I am not sure they are a great value for the cost based on my initial look at them.

Strictly IMHO.

I agree with last post - my only addition is - with anything worth having you basically get what you pay for. Not to say you have to spend a fortune to get a good gun, there are times I would rather use my 1950's era Rem 870 vs my Beretta's, etc.

If you are a serious shooter save up for a name you know you can count on. However I think the most important thing is to make sure the gun fits YOU - try em all and go with the one you can pull up every time, don't get hung up on the looks or engraving if you really want to shoot well.

My 2 cents - good luck & support the shooting sports!

Take a look at the KHAN brand, they make the O/U for Mossberg. They just don't have the nicer ingraving that Mossberg adds at it's shop.

But function wise they are a good bet, I shot one last year and was impressed with the feel for a $400 gun.

I bought a Traditions brand from a forum member last year, it shoots great and feels wonderful to shoulder.

But I have a hard time hitting any thing with it,I shot a best 18 birds with it.

My average last year with my old Winchester SX-1 was 24.1 so I know I can shoot if the gun fits me.

Reminton has a brand called Spartin that is made by Bikali out of Russia. They are not to bad either for the cheap ones.

KHAN is made in Turkey shotgun by the way.
