Lac Des Mille Lacs

Recommended Posts

I am also heading up that way in a couple of weeks. If anybody has a report thay would like to share please do. I will certainly post mine. I've fished the lake the last 12 or so years and know parts of the lake real well. Fishinglund where do you stay and what part of the lake do you fish?

We also stay at Pine Point. Bill & Kris are real nice people. We usually fish Bolton Bay, around Hook Island, Chi Chi Bay, the back side of Shaft Island and Sunken island. There are numerous other places I fish, but don't know how to explain it without a map. I hope you have a good trip and the weather is nice. The fish are always the bonus to a nice vacation.

We got back Friday night, and then I had to work Saturday so I haven't had time to post. We had an excellent trip and as usual my wife outfished me again. We caught over 200 walleyes with the biggest at 23.5"(my wife caught it). We had a lot in the 14"-17" range along with a lot of smaller ones. We also caught over 100 northerns with the biggest at 36" (my wife caught it too)! We fished pretty close to the resort, and some in Bolton bay. The fish were in 10-20 feet of water with rocky bottom. We used 1/8 jigs and a minnow for the walleyes, and spoons for the northerns.

4 walleyes...13 inch minimum - only 1 can be over 18.1"

4 northerns...27.5"-35.4" protected slot (you can't keep any in that size range)

Also, for the last two years we have been checked on the lake (thursday both years) so make sure you measure those fish correctly with the mouth shut and tail pinched. We were legal, but last year a boat down the shore from us got a ticket for a northern that was just barely in the slot.

Shore lunch counts toward your daily limit.

Just returned from Lac De and the fishing was real good. We ate fish four times and brought what we were allowed back. The fish were a little deeper than what I'm use to, but they bit real well. The biggest northern was just under 40" and the biggest walleye was 21", but all the 16" -18" fish you would ever want. I didn't let my wife out fish me this year. It was my turn!!!

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
