Go DEEP for bass

Hey all, thought I would throw some of you a bone with some hot bass info.

Last weekend we had one of our LETS events on the Le Homme Dieu chain in Alex.

Dennis Steele and I filled out each day on largemouth once we figured out exactly where they were....and they were deep.

I'm not talking 8-12 feet deep, I'm talking 15-25 feet deep.

These fish were definetly post spawn, hanging off the deep weed edges of any mid lake structure. The best fish holding spots were off of mid lake humps surrounded by very deep water and topping off at 9-12 feet.

These fish bit very aggressively hitting 1 oz spinnerbaits that were allowed to fall to the bottom and then slow rolled back to the boat, a technique I use mainly in the late fall, but tried it this weekend because of the cold water temps (60 degrees Friday morning....brrrrrr).

So if you are looking for some good action this weekend, give the mid lake structure a try, although I would concentrate a little shallower since the temps should be climbing.

Good Luck!!

This all sounded believable until the part about Dennis catching a bass... We all know he only catches catfish grin.gif.. Did you guys get into some big piggys (bass that is tongue.gif)? Did you pick up some decent pike on that same pattern?

The other teams had a really hard time finding larger pike. This is where we picked ours up, largest being 4.7, but I did loose one Sunday that broke me off that would have been much larger. I actually had a 26"er get slashed by something BIG on the way up to the boat. Had my line go completely slack and when I got it up, it had been hit by something and was bleeding pretty bad. There are a few ski's in the chain, it could have been one of those.

As for the bass, no really big fish, but all were between 14.5 and 17".

Sami-
No, it was more of a coontail-carrow weed mix.

Just what Tom said, but we caught a majority of the bass deep with Redtail chubs and shiners. Northerns were the same. These fish were not easy to catch as they were nowhere near the structure I would typically find them this time of the year.

I went out to a trusty bass lake last evening in Otter Tail Co. and the bass were deep in the cabbage and were not hungry at all. My largest was 14" which really suprised me, as this lake consistently produces huge fish. It has been a strange year on these bass...
