I had a first gen mako and it was complete garbage. Recently i've had the pleasure of using the new models (2013)and it seems that they've made a lot of improvements. The ardisam motors run smooth and it looks well built. As for longevity, only time will tell. Treat it good and it will do the same for you (true for any auger). With that being said, I still run my jiffy 30.

I also wanted to add that Eskimo customer service is top notch!

I've had mine (barracuda) for 14 years and only have to replace throttle spring a couple times ... engine still runs fine and cuts well. Certainly could be worse for all the banging around it has been through. I expect it to keep going for many more years.

I just put 10 of them together and gassed them up and started them and every one started on less than 5 pulls. They are heavy and slower than some but for the $ they are a good auger. Not a strikemaster or Nils but for someone looking to get started or doesn't have deeper pockets they are a good auger.

Thats why I stuck with Eskimo, me and my brother had a barracuda that we got for christmas a loong time ago...We had it for 15 years and never had to replace anything and we most certainly didn't take the best care of it...So when I decided to buy my own I stuck with them...

If your buying off season watch Glens army navy's HSOforum, I got my Z51 for $230 a couple summers ago...

Have been running Eskimo's on LOW for the past 3 years after switching from SM's. (Got sick of replacing broken handles). I have a 43 Mako and have had great luck with it. We have 2 more Eskimo's in the family and they have been nothing short of spot on. I respecfully disagree that they are not as good as a SM or a Nils although they do make some good equipment as well. It's the same with anything. You may have bad luck with any of the augers out there and you may get one that will run perfectly for years. I wouldn't hesitate based on my experience to reccomend the Eskimo's.
