Dead stick for crappie question

So this yr with the addition of the Jaw Jacker I plan on dead sticking a rod for crappie (usually just hole hop with one rod). I know pinheads work but what would you run on a dead stick rod that wasn't live bait of any kind? Looking for lure with plastic bait options. Trying to get away from needing live bait on every trip.

you could try gulp alive minnows or the gulp maggots. I've had good luck with the red maggots for crappies
