I have acquired a 14x42 jon boat (free!). When I removed the wood floor, I found several broken ribs. They had been previously repaired, and broke in the same place. I need to figure out how best to repair this. I plan on using this boat for duck hunting on larger marshes and rivers, so there is a good possibility of deadheads and the like, so I want a strong repair. I thought having the rib welded,(again) and then putting a piece of 2x4 channel (aluminum) over the rib and bolting through the rib and floor.

Any other ideas?
