Lip_Ripper Guy
Anyone here have a Berkon frame? I'm planning for the 2012 Fish House Build, and have a few questions. General thoughts? Power up and down, or just gravity down? What is the automatic locking system? How is the paint on the frames? Any help would be much appreciated! low277
My hat is off to you, I haven't totally finished mine and you are going to start another one!I have read your other builds, they are great.
B-man715
My Buddy just picked up an RV Icecastle with a Berkon Frame.I am very impressed with it! His powers up and down. The wireless FOB to raise and lower is sweet! All tube frame. There is one pin he has to pull on the tongue before lowering. I'm not sure how the tires lock for road travel, or if it just rides on the hydraulics? You say they have an automatic locking system, is this for the pin on the tounge, or the tires? It is brand new so the paint obviously looks great so far....I have a Shack Rack Frame, but gotta admit the new Berkons are twice the frame. Lip_Ripper Guy
I'm pretty sure the automatic locking system is just for the wheels, and there is a pin on the tongue that would still need to be removed.
larryz
I have a 2011 Ice Castle 8X16 with a Berkon hydraulic frame. I love it!! Like already said it has one pin on the hitch and a key fob remote for activating hydraulics. It is an all tube frame and well built. It is power up and down and has its own battery. It sure beats the winches with cables!! You would never be sorry.
lotg63
HERE IS WHAT NOT TO BUY!! A friend of mine has been waiting 4 weeks longer (and still waiting)than they had promised for a delivery date with numerous lies along the way, The reason that he went with Ice Assault was because of the guarantee they gave him of having the frame complete and delivered in 3 weeks. He not only sold his fish house on that promise having a busy life made several sacrifices to make the time available to build his fish house. I would suggest looking into a Berkon Frame. I was going to buy a Ice Assault frame until I heard how they treated my buddy.
CaptainMusky
lotg63, I understand the frustration, but I dont think you need to go around and resurrect every old topic regarding ice house trailer frames to get the point across.5 posts total for you so far and ALL of them have been about the same thing. lotg63
Sorry Captain, but this is the only way I know to help other trusting sportsman out! I think my buddy will try and get the word out in a couple other ways. Thanks for the advice.
walleyewiz0212
Just from my expirence with Berkon frames, I would stay away. Buddy of mine built a house on one and didnt have good luck at all. Was not square and the back end drooped when lifted up. But that could have been one bad apple out of the group. Ice Casstle seems to have good luck with them. Yes he is a little slow but the frame is high quality. The material that he also has for his houses is top notch. He does great work. He wont sell a bad product. Lip_Ripper Guy
I agree that Clint is a nice guy, and the frames are top notch. I've referred dozens of people to him. However, my experience in getting my frame WAS extremely frustrating. I was given a delivery date which was missed by 4 months. That timing wasn't the worst part. The worst part was the new excuse (and new timeline) for it not being done, every time I called. He assured me that he was hiring new people, and waiting 6 months for a frame would not be the norm moving forward. I've had 5 or 6 people contact me in the last few months, and I now know that things haven't changed a whole lot.All the frustrations would be eliminated by honest timelines upfront. If the frames take 6 months to get out, that's how long it is going to take. If the buyer has the expectation of that upfront, everyone is happy. If the buyer is told a month, and it ends up taking 6 months....well, then we see posts like lotg63's.
