Snaps

FM_Mike

Question

For those of you that do not tie directly to your crank baits, can you tell me what kind of snaps you use and why. Been using BB swivels and it's been suggested that snaps may be a better option. I like to change size and color frequently so direct tie can be a hassle. If someone has any other options please share.

Mike

Normark Speed Clips.

Crosslocks and Duolocks are good, but I've seen them open up when a big fish (usually a pike or muskie) does a lot of thrashing and puts a lot of pressure on them. Speed Clips will NOT open up, in fact I've seen 1 or 2 of them get slightly bent and that just makes them tougher to open.

The last few years I've been using a snap made by the stringease folks called a fastac snap. They kind of twist on and off. Very fast lure changes and nothing to wear out as they do not open and close like crosslocs. I've only has 1 problem. I was casting a spinner made from aircraft cable which is kind of thin and I threw one off on the cast. As long as the eye or split ring isn't paper thin they work great. The stringease snaps WILL NOT open but I find them a hassle when my fingers are cold. Not so with the fastac snap.
