primary cluth

I went to take off the primary clutch off of my sons 1998 zl 500 and broke the back sheave.(Do not use a hammer). If I get a new sheave do you have to re balance the clutch as an assembly? In my mind I say I do but thought I would see what you others think.

Also maybe it is cheaper to buy a used clutch and if that is so where does one look?

Thanks.

I think your way ahead in buying a different clutch, there are salvage yards around, I wouldn't doubt some dealers carry some used clutches and also the online auction and classified sites.

If you get one that wasn't setup for the ZL, just throw your spring and weights in and you'll be good to go. Check your weight bolts and bushings, if they are wore, replace them, it's easy to do.

Oh yeah...... buy a clutch puller or get someone to do it for you smile

You shouldn't need to use a hammer to get them off. A clutch puller does the job. I wouldn't put the old one back on. That old of a sled chance are it hasn't had maintenance done on it. I also wouldn't put on a used clutch, unless is has been gone through & cam arms, pins & bushings have been replaced.

Catdeals.com in Marshall is where I have bought both a primary & secondary clutch. They have the best prices, are great to deal with & very knowledgeable!
