Matt C
So, doing my old 4-stroke was nice and simple, looking at my new motor and wanting to get her ready for winter...where do I spray the fog? Looks like I should the remove the black cover on the front of the motor to get to it?Thanks!
Matt C
My dealer just told me to not fog the motor? This doesn't seem right to me.
wplatehunter
I had the same problem. For the last two years I just took the spark plugs out and sprayed the fogging oil in there. When I was done I turned the motor over a few times with the kill switch disconnected. Good luck if you find a spot to spray it directly into the motor let me know. Matt C
From the dealer:Mattquick question for you. fogging the HDPI, do I remove the black cover on the front side of the motor?9:32amCorydon't fog!9:33amCoryput stabil in the gas and an engine corrosion protectant. Yamaha recommends ring free that they sell, but we use Merc's product because there is more corrosion protectionfogging oil plugs up injectorsCoryThe other product will keep the bearing from rusting if there is any moisture in the engine
wplatehunter
I run ring free year round, but I have never been told or seen anything about not fogging.
wplatehunter
So did you end up fogging the motor?

knoppers
thanks for this post, I also have the 200 HPDI, and I have not fogged this motor so far. it looks like I may not have to. on my older carbed yami, I just sprayed it into the plug holes, and turned the motor a few times, as was said earlier, and this seemed to work good for me. wplatehunter
Thanks that makes me feel better about fogging my motor.
marine_man
Bottom line, on anything that's got an injector, fogging through the spark plugs is pretty much the only way.marine_man
CRFan1
TI am not even convinced you need to for the cylinders through the plug holes (although it does not hurt) because the bores on modern outboards have a Nikasil (chrome/nickel) type plating that is hard as heck and does not rust like an old cast iron bore. knoppers
I believe fogging is done more for the crank and bearings.
