  1. I am heading up there this weekend also. There is a new access south of Minnewaukan 3 miles on 281. It is on the east side of the road, look for the water facility. From there you can access the big lake. I was there in april so no new fishing reports.
  2. Hello, I just picked up a 8 week old lab last week. The breeder was feeding him Diamond Puppy Food. I do not know anything about the Diamond product. I wanted to keep him on it for a while but wondering what to do after I use the first bag. Mainly looking for some comments on this product.
  3. I have had this occur numerous times. I find one little piece of grass that triggers 1000 pictures in 2 weeks. I have had beautiful sunrise pictures also when facing east. My best suggestion is find a bigger tree (8"+) and clear all grass and branches 30' away. Put camera 3'-5' above the ground. If you have access to a laptop, take it out to the camera, get the images out and you will find out whats triggering it. Then you can fix it before you are dissapointed again. Just what I have learned the hard way.
  4. Check your local county web site. Here in Clay where I live and Becker where I hunt you can get better photos than google earth. The GIS maps from the county also show the property lines over the aerial photos. I've noticed the google photos from my land are from 2000 and the county photos are from 2008.
  5. I sold one in moorhead this spring for $1300.
  6. I opened up 2 new acres on memorial day that was solid woods. I went up there every 2 weeks to spray. In August there was no weeds around anymore. I tilled it up and planted some imperial wildlife clover. I was up there a week ago and the clover was 18" tall and the deer were all over it. I also planted some corn in a different area that got chewed up before it had a chance to grow. I spread some turnips/brassicas on Aug 20 and I should have planted them about 3-4 weeks earlier. Some are about golf ball size but I think they are done growing after the 22 deg. the other night. Lesson learned for next year.
  7. I second the moultrie battery life. I bought a Moultrie I40 in June and checked it last weekend and it still has 80% after 115 days and taking over 1000 pictures. I had an older moultrie that took 6 Volt batteries and lasted 3 weeks tops in good weather. I spent over $50 on batteries for the older one and $5 for the newer one. I should have bought another I40. I tried a solar panel on my older camera and didn't seem to increase the life much. I wouldn't waste my time with a solar panel when I figure to get at least 6 months of battery life.

    Joint Pain

I have a 11 yr old yellow lab. I thought she was done hunting when she was 7 because of her arthritis. She was ran over with a ATV when she was 10 weeks old so she has never been a fast dog. I tried glucosamine pills and they helped a little. Then 1 1/2 years ago I tried a different dog food made for seniors. It has all the goodies in it. She loves the taste and has more energy than she has ever had. 2 years ago I would hunt her in the morning and she was done for 3-4 days. Last year I hunted her 5 days in a row with no recovery problems. Just something else for you to think about and possible try.
  9. I bought a used 44" Swisher rough cut this year. I used to rent one for $75/day and figured it would pay for itself in 3-4 years and I can mow whenever I wanted. It goes through whatever my ATV will go through. Had to make a fixed bracket for the cable to the ATV since the last owner had it vibrate off and got chopped up.
  10. I worked on a new 1.5 acre food plot last weekend. I bought a at home test kit to see what is in the ground. I was suprised at the information I received out of a $10 kit that I can use 10 times. It tells you what you need to add and how much to get to optimum for everything you can grow. It tells you the PH, Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potash. I found out my Nitrogen was non existent. Has anyone else used these kits?
  11. Thanks for all the good info/past experiences. My plot last year didnt amount to much because I didnt give it a whole lot of time. I have now bought toys to make it work. I plan on heading up friday to start working on it. I plan on removing/transplanting trees, leveling the ground, spraying, and keeping it black for this season. I am going to take a soil sample aslo. I am trying to make it about 200' x 400' or so. The nearest ag land is 5 miles away. My land is in the middle of a 40000 acre forest. Thanks again. JK
  12. Duck- Thanks for the offer. I plan on doing all the work myself. It is fun for me to do this. I have a cat, disc, atv, mower, sprayers, etc. Last year I did a 40' x 40' plot w/ corn and beans. I didn't fertilize or spray weeds and it didnt amount to much but I had deer in it numerous times during the season. JK
  13. I am looking to do some plots on land I bought last fall 10 miles north of Park Rapids. It has a lot of 10' pines on it and the soil is really sandy. I want to make it about 100' x 200'. I plan on going up memorial day weekend and pulls trees out with a tractor. Then I plan on turning the ground over the best I can. Do you guys think I could plant some clover right away or should I roundup it then go back in a month and plant or just wait til next year. I also have trails I cut and tilled last summer. Can I till up the grass that has grown in and plant clover over that or should I kill the grass off. There is very few weeds present, just grass.

  15. I have the exact gun in a 20 ga. That is all I use. It is a very light gun and perfect for the long walks. They do cost about $350 ,but I personally would rather scratch a $350 o/u than a $1500 o/u.
