  1. 55" St Croix Sturgeon, October.
  2. I used to live in Buffalo. Crow River and the Mississippi are both loaded with channel cats

  5. This Father's Day as always, I'll take my 80 year old dad fishing on the St Croix. We fish almost every weekend we can and we'll continue to do that even if I have to carry him to the boat on my back. Father's Day is special though!
  6. St Croix, Mississippi and MN Rivers
  7. Funny... When I was paying child support, Ramsey County and my ex-wife treated that whole process like a religion. She always wanted more and the county was always happy to help her get it. By the time my son was so screwed up that she could not deal with him and he had to come live with me (he's a-ok now by the way) and the custody roles are reversed, she does not have to pay me one thin dime. Like I said, funny. . .
  8. Mudpuppies - - lots of them, on the river. Mudpuppies are 8-12" salamanders with legs and external gills. Predatory little buggers too.
  9. Bobb-o, you could not be stupid if you've not been skunked in 15 years!
  10. Obviously, you have access to the internet. . .
  11. Costal is in St Paul at Grand and Snelling and in Wayzata - not sure of address. I know Sardines and mackeral are not native but the cats don't seem to mind. I doubt they ever encounter stink baits naturally but they sure seem to like them too.
  12. I use fresh mackeral and fresh sardines that I buy from Costal Seafood. They are oily as heck.
  13. There is a magazine I pick up from time to time called "Wooden Boat". Always a good read. It's full of plans and other resources for everything from cedar strip canoes to huge wooded sailboats and yachts.
  14. Thanks for the reply. It will be just my wife and I. We'll give him a try!
  15. We are spending much of a week in Bayfield in Mid-September. We are very interested in going out on a charter for trout/etc. Any recommendations?
  16. St Croix. Close to metro - never disappoints.
  17. Dave, I'm use your spoons a lot for vert jigging on the river. I put a worm weight - however heavy as I need above a swivel then a 12 - 18" leader to the spoon. I tip with crawler, leech or minnow. fantastic! This also works as a good dead-stick rig in the rod-holder while I cast or jig more aggressively with something else.
  18. Circle hooks would be my choice. Fresh cut bait - filet of sucker is great as is a bunch of crawlers in a net bag. Jigging spoons with a chunk of minnow just bounced on the bottom is also great. Be especially nice to the ones you catch and release - I've read the females take years to mature and may only spawn once every 9 years or so (sounds like my ex-wife!)
  19. Cut bait is easier to use than chicken liver because it stays on the hook better. Many would say size of cat is better on cut bait too. Big cats like the flatheads absolutely prefer live bait. Big sucker/chubs and bullheads. If you are a casual fisherman, you are probably not suitably equipped for flats. Think really, really heavy tackle.
  20. Curing cutbait in rock salt/brown sugar and/or other "magic" ingredients toughens it.
  21. I eat the some of the legals I catch in the St Croix but I've been wondering about some of the nice 2 - 3 lb channels from pool 2. I'd avoid anything from the MN river but I wonder if the metro rivers are really any worse than the 7 county metro lakes.
  22. I have a fantastic suggestion for you. . . TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!!
  23. Do you guys eat the pool 2 kitties?
  24. I remember someone posting here that Cabelas had a kit for this. That's one trailer upgrade I wish I'd bought!
