French Brittany Pups

I have a couple of questions on picking a new pup. I have been on a list for a new pup this spring for some time now. The problem is that the 2 dogs I thought I would be getting a pup from will not be having puppies until April. I have the chance to get a pup from the same breeder but with a different set of dogs. These will be born Feb 1. This will be the females first set of puppies so no idea of what the colors or size will be. Is there any risk of getting a pup from a female that has never had pups before? Looking forward to hearing your responses. Thanks

Ultimate size of pups when they mature has nothing to do with a female having her first litter. Along with almost everything else having nothing to do with being out of a "first litter".

Only thing you can do to tip the cards in your favor is to be satisfied with two parents you'd be getting the earlier pup from. If you think they are good, then run with it. You'll be fine.

My Setter is from a first litter and he's a pretty good dog. I would say any issues he has are more from my skills as a trainer than anything related to being a pup from a first litter. He's actually two years old now and has been used for a stud dog at the kennel where I got him.

As was stated if you like the parents you should be fine. It's always nice to see the parents work birds if you can to get a feel for their drive, how they work, etc.

Good Luck!!!
