dual transducers?

baldav

Question

I'm planning on monting a second transducer to the transom of my boat. Will I run in to interference by monting a second transducer? Will the proximity of the transducers effect the amount of potential interference? If so, is there a minimum range of distance to keep between the two transducers to receive optimal performance?

As a bit of a background... I wanted to add a GPS unit to my set-up. I currently have in place a Eagle Fishmark 480 and have now purchased a Lowrance LMS 332Ci to provide both color gps and sonar. I want to keep the Eagle unit intact because I think I'll want to use the full screen of the GPS while keeping the Eagle for sonar at certain times. I'm not sure if this makes sense, but the bottom line is that I want to run a combo sonar/gps unit along side a seperate sonar and am concerned about potential interference between the two units.

I would appreciate any thoughts or comments from those who have more expereience with these types of things then I do. Thanks!

You will get interference from the transducers for those units.

If you want to use the gps as full screen, go into your sonar menu and hit 'stop chart'. That will turn the sonar off on the Lowrance so your Eagle won't get any interference.

I don't remember the exact guideline or rule of thumb, but I think if you have transducers mounted on your stern and your bow on an 18 foot boat, you won't get any interference until you're in about 30 fow, for 20 degree angle transdcuers. So for argument's sake, take the distance between the transducers, double it, and that's approximately how deep of water you can be in before they interfere.

Baldav,

I had the same ? and did a little research with this and here is what I found. I am no expert by any means....

I just added and new graph/gps to my boat. I put the new transducer next to the existing one. 2 Lowrance units; 1 graph on the console and other in back while running the tiller (for Lowrance there is a switch that can run 2 units off 1 transducer but I didn't go with it). Keep in mind this is 2 Lowrance sonor/GPS units. I was told that the 2 sonors will interfere with each other if running at the same time. If the Ping speeds are adjusted on the units it will minimize the interference, but not eliminate it. What I plan to do..... Turn the sonor off for the unit I am not sitting in front of watching so there is no chance for interference between the two. So for you......... you could have the full screen GPS on the 332 (with the sonor off) and watch the Eagle for the sonor. My bet is you will be using the 332 in the split screen mode and keeping the Eagle off more often than not. I have the 334 C (same as 332 except internal antenna) and love the unit. Color is awesome compared to black/white on those bright sunny days.

Just my .02

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
