Kicker mounting bracket?

I would like to put a kicker on a 1750 lund prosport and i already have an old 8 hp merc but it doesn't work because it's short shaft. Would a mounting bracket solve this problem and does it make the tiller harder to use because it is farther back? Any other ideas to fix this problem without spending a lot of money?

I have my 15hp kicker on a mounting bracket because theres no cut out for it. Its scary having that thing hanging way out there. Not only hitting hard waves but driving down bumpy roads. Plus I'm almost hanging off the back of the boat to work the handle which is below the top of the boat.

Putting your kicker directly to the boat is really the way to go if you have room. Maybe sell the old short shaft and look for an old long shaft. Good luck
