SOLD Mercury 40hp outboard for parts or fix, mid 1990s SOLD

Recommended Posts

I have this nice Mercury Classic 40hp outboards for sale at $ 500.00 firm.

It is a 2 stroke, 4 cylinders, oil injected motor.

Has excellent compression, even all 4 cylinders, power tilt + trim, great lower unit, long shaft 20".

Motor had s backfire on carbs and caught on fire, it needs part of electricals, carbs, and few smaller parts.

I was going to keep it as my own motor, but it's been sitting at my place for past 6 months and never got to work on it, so I'm selling for what I paid for it.

If you have one similar, this is an excellent way to get parts at cheap price, or you can rebuild it by getting missing parts (check hsolist).

The 4 cylinders 40hp (50hp and 60hp) were excellent motors, great trollers.

I just sold my spare motor last fall that I used to rebuild my lower unit with.

Would like to get a spare lower now, so if any one needs upper parts I would split the cost with them.

It doesn't have any controls, but I might have something used around here for few bucks.

Benny, you guys talk it out, you've seen the motor and you know if I wanted to keep it for me it's a good motor....kinda like the boat you bought.... grin.gif

Lower unit is excellent, check pictures even prop doesn't have a ding on it.

Hey Valv,

I am wondering if you are willing to part that motor out. I am in need of a tilt and trim for my 40 HP Merc. One question I have is do you know if that tilt and trim would work for a 1976 40HP Merc? I assume it would. I could fabricate some of the pieces if I needed to but I would rather not.

I do not know if Benny is still willing to go half way on the motor with someone but I would be willing to do that if interested. email me if interested [email protected]
