LED interior lighting color selection for boat

Fish On! Guide Service

Question

I'd like to install interior lighting on my boat and was wondering what color I should select. It's my understanding that amber and red are a good choice due to the bug factor, but how about a blue? I like the look of blue the light it emits is fairly decent. Any of you have experience in this and have a suggestion? Will blue work as far as NOT attracting bugs like the amber or red? What color are you using now? Would you change the color if you had to do it over again? Any light placement suggestions?

Thanks,

Stephen

I use amber clearance lights for interior lights along with a couple clear lights for when you absolutely need more light, and a new swarm of mosquitos.

Amber lights are great to light up the floor of the boat, bait hooks, and not rob you of your night vision as long as you dont place them where they are shining at you in your field of view. I have tried red and was not happy with the results.

The amber lights I used were the standard 2 filament bulb clearance lights for trailers. I would assume the new led lights out there would be better, and have less battery draw.
