ColdColdCold
Wow,I just started hunting pheasants last year. Today I got my first pheasants...Got two nice roosters in 45 minutes of hunting. The amazing thing is I bet I saw 50 birds..most of which were roosters in the 45 minutes. Its amazing how the birds are bunched up. I was hunting a ditch next to some recently plowed corn and every 50 yards I was flushing 5-6 birds. The only problem is the birds were jumpy!..I was onlt able to get off long shots. Not a great avergae per shot..But two birds int he bag..what more can I hope for... I felt like I was in So Dakota today when in fact I was in Morriston MN! phesnthuntr
Congrats on the first birds. Nothing like the rush of a rooster busting out in front of you. I bet your hooked for life now. I have gone from my first dog 4 years ago to my second dog this year. My wife even got sick of me telling her how much fun it is, she shot her first bird this year. Its great to see all the birds, with another mild winter an d spring we should see plenty of birds again next year.
fasternu
We hunted in west central MN on Sunday, and we saw probably well over 500 birds. The birds were really sticking together and very often were out in the open fields. Yes, they were very skittish and you needed people to post the edges. We even found 1 field (private land we were hunting) and the birds were flying like it was Pearl Harbor! There were very easily 250-300 birds just in that field itself. They were still flying steadily out of the field after close to 20 minutes! WOW!
