Finally some ice!

Recommended Posts

Devils Lake hasnt froze yet but some of the smaller lakes that are known for their excellent pike fishing have been froze over for more than a week now. Some people have been walking out and report fair success. cold weather is moving in and water temps on the big lake have really dropped this last week. We just need some single digit temps and a couple of days without wind. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Its really hard to say what is the best time of year for perch. If I was going to pick the most consistent time of year I would say January. In years like this when the ice is going on fairly late, early ice can last well into Jan. and we can still find perch in relativly shallow water. The bad part about Jan. is that is so cold but probably the most stable weather of the ice fishing season. And we all now we need stable weather for perch fishing. Are you thinking about making the trip?

We fished with Jeff Dosch the last 2 years in early Jan.;1st week. The first year we did good on perch and last year the walleye fishing was Super!! The first year we didn't fish walleyes because of whiteout conditions late in the day. I would recommend these guys to anyone, they do a great job. Stan C.

Yes, thinking of doing a guided Saturday full day trip with you this winter, and sticking around and fishing Sunday. I sent you an email...I'll await your response.

Stan - I have heard many comments like yours. Would like to get dad out on some perch/walleye fishing on DL. We do well fishing Darling/Audabon in the winter, be we have tried to many weekends sleeping out on devils lake and coming up empty handed. Time to show us there really is fish in the lake.

Figured what the heck, maybe get a 1 day voucher from Jeff for 2 people, treat dad as a Christmas present, and let Jeff choose a good weekend as Dad and I can usually leave home (Minot-Dad & Duluth-me) for a trip like this with 12 hour notice...

Subject: Gift Certificates?

Good Afternoon Jeff,

I am a fellow member of FishingMN.com (PapaWoodie) and have heard great reviews about your service. I grew up in Minot with my parents, and have “attempted” to fish devils lake many numerous winters all weekend long, with no success for Walleye or Perch. Five years ago my father and I quit fishing the lake, simply because we didn’t know where to fish, and how to fish it. We now stick close to Audabon, Darling, and lakes near Minot when I make it home to ND.

For Xmas, I think my dad would appreciate a 1 day guided perch/walleye excursion trip to teach him how to use his Vex and also new techniques you may be able to provide the both of us.

Question is, Do you offer Gift Certificate options? I would like to fish with you one Saturday (all day), then stay Sunday as well to fish with my father. But, of course, the Friday I would choose to perch fish would be very dependant on your recommendations as my dad would come from Minot, and I would come from Duluth.

What suggestions do you have?

Thanks in advance,

Casey W. Visocsky

HI Casey,

yes we do have gift certificates. As far as when to fish we can get some better details when we talk on the phone. That way we can see what will work out better for your dad and yourself. I will be at the St. Paul Ice Fishing show this weekend but I will have my cell phone with me. If I dont hear from you this weekend I will talk to you Monday. Thanks
