CVA Kodiak Bullet Recommendations

My son recently purchased a 45 caliber Kodiak muzzleloader and being I haven't shot one before am seeking advice on bullet and powder selections. The salesmen made some recommendations, but we are interested in hearing from someone who has actual experience. Thanks in advance for your ideas!

225 grain powerbelts, start with a 75 grain powder load.

CrappieTom, is that 75gr by volume or by weight? I am using Triple 7's FFG Powder. I am using 80gr by volume with a 295gr Powerbelt on a .50 cal Kodiak. I am kind of confused when talking powder and measuring because some powder burn hotter then others. I hope this is enough to take a deer down or do you think I should bump it up?

Neiko....all blackpowder and blackpowder substitutes are measured in volumn. Smokeless powders found in cartridge cases are measured by weight.

Thanks CrappieTom, that is the same answer I got from BPI (CVA). I think I might just leave it at 80gr then.
