Lyme Disease Reminder

Recommended Posts

Last week my dad video taped for me. Monday night after work I got a call from him telling me to be sure to check throughly for ticks. He found one on his leg Mon. morning and by noon the tell tail "target" had shown up so he went to the doc. and tested positive for lyme disease. Just thought I would remind everybody of the risks!

Good tip, Kingr. If you are out in the spring woods, try REPEL with Permanone, a clothing treatment spray which is effective for keep ticks off you. Spray boots, pant legs, waist band, jacket or shirt cuffs and colors and let the Permanone dry. It is effective for 2 weeks or so. Check yourself each night or as soon as possible after you get out of the woods. Best of Luck.

Tombow is right on the money with the repel stuff. I was regularly picking up dozens of ticks as I bowfished along a river in the central part of the state. After I treated my pants and shoes I didn't pick up a single one. Absolutely amazing stuff. Just don't get it on your cat if you like it. The stuff is poisonous to them.

On a side note for the dogs guys....there is a new product that is a combo test for heartworm and lymes disease. My buddies dog ended up testing positive for lymes despite being vaccinated every year. Luckily he found out early and the dog was treated before any visible problems popped up. If you've got a good hunting dog that spends a lot of time in endemic (sp?) areas it's a good idea to vaccinate them, coat them in frontline, and get them tested once a year. I knew a guy who lost a real top shelf grouse dog to lymes. It's an ugly way to to go and that $100 a year for the vaccines, replellants, and tests will seem like a bargain if you lose a dog that you have so much love, time, and money poured into.
