Need a long distance caster for shore fishing. Application would be casting out in front of dam gates and out to deep holes. Usually chuck 1/8 to 1/4 oz. jigs or roadrunners.

ks, your best bet will be a salt water reel. Casting is affected most by the free spool on reels. The guys that surf cast and throw heavy iron lures on the ocean boats, tweak their reels to improve freespool. Also you should find a reel without a level wind. I am not sure what distances you are talking about.

There are companies out there that can supe up your reel to improve freespool. I do know that casting lighter weights over a long distance requires practice and paitents. It can be done. Hope this helps get you started.

Long rod probably in the 8.5' range in a light or med/light action, light line or superline in small diameter like the power pro and a long wide spooled spinning reel. In fisherman had a great article on this for spooky smallmouth a ways back.
