finicky smallies

Hello, I need help. I was fishing for smallies on Koronis for the first time yesterday after the downpour. I tried with plastics and had no luck fishing the weeds in 8-10 ft. The perch were tearing up my baits. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I used a Flu-Flu and caught a bunch of perch and a couple of 16-17 in smallies. I did finally catch one on a power worm. Any suggestions to catch these fish that must have been around just not real impressed with my offering? Surface baits? Jig worm? Rattle trap? Thanks for the help!

What you found was the typical post front liplock. Also what you found was a great solution for that problem... The float and fly.
Anytime you are faced with coldfront or post front conditions, the fish are in a very negative feeding mood. What you want to do is either fish as slow as you can with very small lures, or try to trigger a reaction bite using big, fast lures. I usually go with the finese presentation first.

Fincky smallies.
I have been chasing smallie around all year and where I have been the bite has goast tougher but you can still catch am.

I would have a suspendin jerk bait tied up, a chug bug and a small 1/8 oz jig with a Gene larew baby twin tail skirted grub. This grub is 2.5" it's an excellent small mouth bait.

I like topwater for smallies when given the right conditions.
