Help with Navionics and Elite 5 please

BoxMN

Question

Hi all,

I need some help. Have brand new Navionics North, just bought last night. I did the update through their site, using their usb plug, all shows up fine on the PC "App". All seemed good.

Put it into Elite 5 (just brand new from Lowrance "upgrade" from non working unit). And this is what I get: see image.

nav1.jpg

The lake area is all blocky blue, no matter what I zoom to. I did select "Navionics" as you can see in the image as well.

What am I doing wrong? I will assume it is user error (though I have had Navionics for years, and Lakmaster, and several GPS units, and even work in the tech field... go figure...) but this very frustrating.

Did the update go bad? It took forever to do.

Wanted to have it working for a trip my brother and I am going on tomorrow. Would have been fine if the stoopid elite5 would take SD because we have two Navionics chips in SD that were working until our other units went the heck.... another storry for another time

Thanks for any help you can give. (ps posted this elsewhere as well to try to get emergency help)

(just brand new from Lowrance "upgrade" from non working unit). Not sure what this means. but the most current software from lowrance is Elite-5 DSI, Elite-5, Elite-5m and Elite-5m Baja (worldwide) 03/01/12 3.5.0 3.8MB. Just pulled it off of there web site. All eles fails call Navionics at 800-848.5896. They are there from 8:30-4:30 EST and they speak english. Sounds like Boston.

Thanks Jnoel. Our unit is firmware 3.6.0 so it is even newer than they have posted.

BTW - We got the unit FROM Lowrance after they wouldn't fix an older unit for us, but give us a special rate on a current model... So it came from Lowrance directly, that is what I meant by "upgrade".

Will need to call Nav, as the update I did seems to be the issue from what we can tell. Thanks for info!

Just wanted to update those interested - it is all working now!

Had to update the Navionics "World" software (it does the updating of chips) and then restart Windows, and then update the chip itself.

My first two attempts did not put all the files in the chip for some reason. Now working like a champ. Kudos to Navionics, as the steps I was given today worked as instructed. (They had a new "World" update last night, maybe that was it...)

Thanks for your input here, I appreciate it!

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
