Hey bigun!

The best advice I can give you for pike over 6 lbs is to fish lakes that have pike over 6 pounds....I am not trying to sound sarcastic....But most lakes in the twin cities have lots of hammerhandle northerns...where a 4lber is a nice pike! Generally look to bigger lakes, lakes that are all around good fishing lakes and that is where you will find the bigger pike! (Mille Lacs, Leech, Red...and so on) Also....don't forget rivers! The Mississippi has some huge pike in it!

AS far as location....generally fish deeper than you normally would...Big pike need surprisingly cool water.....Little pike warm shalllow water...big pike cool deep water!
In rivers...Look for springs!
As far as lures....small muskie jerkbaits, smaller bucktails (Mepps 5), anything of that sort! Or......A sucker! whatever way you like to fish! Good luck in finding the bigger pike! Make sure you release them, it is almost more important to release big pike than almost any other type of fish! They are important to a lake to make it a well rounded fishery!

Let us know how ya do!

Johnson Silver Minnow/pork frog
Rapala floating/diving original minnow (larger sizes)
Rapala suspending husky jerk (larger sizes)
Chartreuse (bright light greeen/yellow) spinnerbaits tipped with 4-inch to 6-inch sucker minnows (no wire leader needed)

All of these are proven pike takers that can be cast or trolled. They all work retrieved fast/shallow or slow/deep. When all else fails, a spinnerbait tipped with a sucker thrown along the deep weed edge, let sink to the bottom and retrieved with a lift/fall motion is a killer. If they won't eat that, they won't eat. Hook the sucker from the bottom between the gills up straight through the top of the head. They'll die, but that's just fine. They stay on well that way.

If you're trolling, don't worry about letting out lots of line; pike aren't boat shy.

Good luck.
