Edge front end noise

Recommended Posts

Hello, My wife drives a 07 Ford Edge,3.5L I think(its the 6 cyl.) FWD 50,000 miles

When driving there is this noise coming from the front ,I think its the front anyway. It sounds like a badly worn or cupped tires or deep lugged truck tires. We put new BFGoods on it because the old ones were wore and cupped slightly. But that didnt fix it. It seems to be getting a little louder by the week. Any Ideas or help.

Thanks Much

Does it start making the noise around 35 mph?

Find a place clear of traffic and try this. Drive in a straight line until the noise is heard. While maintaining that speed turn to the left and right. Does the noise change? If it does its a wheel bearing.

You can also jack up the front of the car. Place the trans in nuetral. Spin the tires be hand while holding the strut coil. You will be able to feel the noise from a bad bearing in the strut coil.

Are you sure its coming out of the front? If you can't feel the noise than they are probably not bad. There is no sense in replacing something that is not broke.

Most shops will look at noises for either a minimum hoist fee or if there simple enough for free. Go on a test drive with the person who will be looking at it to make sure you are both hearing the same noise. They may even have the noise identified before you make it back to the shop.
