So what is the best way to get a hog this time of year? deep, shallow?Just looking for a little help. I signed up for a little contest this weekend about two months ago and i have not been able to get out at all lately . I know there is some great bass minds out there and i could use some advice. The guys im going up against have been fishing steady so i need a little help. Thanks. Fishing a well known lake near St Cloud.

I would suggest to start shallow and let the fish tell what is going on. I think that the shallow bite should be starting to turn on. My last time out we caught a alot of fish shallow, but only a few decent sized fish. Look for healthy weeds, they tend to stay away from the dead or dying stuff.

Lots of options this time of year, and they can vary greatly from lake to lake. A couple typically solid options are steep breaks off of some type of irregularity in the weedline or a weed flat. Healthy weed clumps on mid depth flats. Isolated wood cover and any remaining docks can be fish magnets. I also have done really well fishing current this time of year as well. The mouths of shallow slop bays will often collect fish when they start to vacate the shallows too. This time of year versatility is key, the fish can be fickle, don't get locked in on one specific area, pattern, or lure choice if they don't seem to be biting.
