I'm not sure if I'm too late or not. But, I've fished the Columbia a a few times in the last 4-5 years. Each time I've gone with a guide. A guy called Bryan Bell.....helluva fisherman, and a good guy too. And he always seemed to put us on fish; be it Sturgeon, Walleye, or bass. Maybe check him out, if you have the chance. I'm going to be at the Yawkey Mine this weekend, and I was wondering if anyone has a fishing report? I haven't ever been to this mine before, so maybe some locations on the mine, or even bait advice would be great. I printed a couple maps off from the DNR, so I have some idea of where to go, but any other help would be great. Thank you.

Renneberg, are there any locations that may work better than others? I haven't ever tried for Cohos. I've only tried fishing for Trout in Wis once, so the area is fairly new to me. Pretty much all of my experience is from Colorado. Magneto, Thanks, I'll check out the Namekagon area. We normally go to Cable to snowmobile, so that might be a good place to go. Thanks a lot for the link. So, now I know where I can fish. But I'm not too certain where a good place would be to try. We hit the Brule river last summer and had a great time. That's why I mentioned the Brule, but obviously it will be closed during that time period. Anyone have any recommendations to try? Thanks again.

Hey guys. I have spring break coming up and it appears that all the snow will be gone, so a snowmobiling trip isn't going to happen. So my dad and I were thinking about going trout fishing the second weekend of March, the 13th-15th. Where would be a good place to go in Northern Wis.? Is the Brule pretty good this time of year? It would just a catch and releast type trip too. Any information would be great. Thanks a lot. Cole

That sounds like a redhorse sucker. I've caught a couple of those on the Horseshoe chain. One was about 5lbs. I caught it on a wax worm while fishing for sunnies on the flats.

Oh by the way, I just wanted to commend you on your advice on the fishing net. We got the net you recommended when we were up there. Not sure on the make or model even, but that thing does a great job of netting. I can only remember a few times that I've got hooks caught in the net. One was from a dogfish that wouldn't stop rolling around. Also, I've been talking to my dad about getting back up there. And we might get a chance to make it up there this year. Good to hear that you're still around Stu. I doubt that you remember my dad and myself, but I'll give it a shot. My dad's name is Kenneth Blasing and mine Cole(same last name). We came up there about 6 years ago. Just wanted to say to you that we had a awesome time, and the fishing was just great. You're also the guy that turned me onto Carp fishing. Yes he is. My dad and myself have been there two times. Both times the fishing was amazing. The second time we went he let me catch the bait then we used slip bobbers for the cats. Tons of fun. Hey guys. I have a question for you. I used to go to a town near Winnipeg called Selkirk, the Red ran through it. I used to fish at that dam for Big catfish. Well when we went there we had a guide called Stu Mckay(I think that's the spelling). Well this was a few years ago, and now I want to go back. But I don't know if he's still in business. I found a webpage of his place, but none of the links worked. So I couldn't view it. So, what I'm looking for is info on him and if he is still running "The Cats on the Red". I feel bad when I catch turtles for some reason. I've caught a couple of them before and they were a fight that's for sure. One snapper was about 6-7lbs and wow that thing was a fighter. Luckly I was fishing for panfish so the hook was small and I could snap the hook so I didn't hurt the little guy.

That's good that you had a good time. Just wait until you hook into 20-30lbs fish on a consistent level.

I have a couple of questions. When is the trout opener for this spring/summer? And once I can get out and fish for trout I'm going to go to the Quary in St. Cloud. What is the best thing to use in early trout season for these deeper ponds? I'll be using a fly rod and spinning real. Thanks

Hey Toad, have you ever heard of Krafty Katchers based out of a European are? I don't they're around anymore, but they were huge about 6-7 years ago. I bought some of their such before they left the market and it worked awesome. Amazing stuff. Later

The thing is hydro, teh canned corn is very soft. It falls of the corn while in heavy current. And smaller fish can just rip it off without a problem. If you're in lite or no current with no runts around, then use canned corn, but otherwise go for the field corn. I get the stuff for free because my dad's buddy is a farmer.

I was with my buddy while fishing near the Oahe Dam near Pierre he caught a totaly white Channel cat. It was pretty cool. It didn't have the normal pink eyes of an albino, but it was pure white. He let it go to live another day though. Cool looking fish.

Largest Catfish was 34lbs on the Red River near the Lockport Dam in Selkirk. Carp was 36lbs at the Lockport dam again. Same weekend too. Also, caught a 5 lbs Redhorse Sucker on Horseshoe lake. And a 20lbs Buffalo Fish on Lake Miniwaska(spelling). That's about it.

One way to keep the dough on the hook is putting it in some cheese cloth. If you have ever fished for Salmon you know what I mean. They just put salmon eggs in cheese cloth and it works like a charm. This will work in heavy current and also preventing the smaller fish from stealing your bait.
