Hunted around Bemidji area over the weekend for a day shot 26 ducks for 5 people all of them being divers. Shot mostly goldeneyes and buffleheads. Bluebills were there but not in big numbers yet biggest flock was prolly 150. Maybe next two weeks it should be peak numbers. -

-
Thanks for the input guys just got it and was comparing it to one of my buddies gps and some lake maps seemed to have some added structures on it, and some obvious different depths in a few places, filled my curiosity thanks!
-
Anyone care to shed some light on how accurate the maps on there for the bigg 6, particularily red lake?

Hunting has been fair in the area few divers moved down, still some teal too, kind of strange. Geese patterns have changed, sometimes they only fly at night other times only in the morning just cant piece it together. * Not trying to start anything but if he had an extended choke thats not far at all many are proven to shoot and kill from anywhere to 60-80 yards effectively(Ive ran patterns on multiple chokes and amunition) though it is a long shot but it can be done and even if he did effectively cripple a bird im sure he put it in his bag limit. Anyways its always a learning expierience no matter who you are! looked liked a good hunt though! -
late season ice problem
H0LE HOPPER replied to luckycrank's topic in Duck Hunting - Geese - Waterfowl-Sandhill Cranes
take a blow torch to the tops just go over it quickly works great, might have to do it more then once though depending how long you hunt. -
Who would i have to call if a lake is open to the public. I checked on the Dnr HSOforum at the lake i want to access and it said there was a "non designated public access that bisects the lake". So i interpreted that it was just an unmarked access and took my canoe out there to go scouting next thing i know i had a landowner at my house saying i cant be over there? I dont see why not other than this access deal, everything else checked out so im guessing they just dont want people hunting it? Any info would be helpful!

Lots of woodies to be had in the chisago county area do some scouting and youll get on em. Hunted a lake saturday night was just swarmed by them. That morning seen a few divers a balls of teal everywhere nothing decoyed though. lots of birds in bean feilds though instead of corn in the area it seems like. Still a lot of geese in the area still just been hard getting into the right feilds. -

Pond and feild hunted ducks out in Buffalo this morn 4 people we managed 19. First time feild hunted in minnesota managed 10 out of the feild mainly mallards and 6 wooducks. I couldnt beleive that i saw prolly a flock of 50 snows come by us today too, thought it was a little odd but i know there is a ton of picked corn and soybeans around so they got the food. Have been scouting a place in the chisago county area turned out to be only 2 min from my house took 2 boats out limited out for 6 people in 25 min best goose hunt ive done! Passed at shooting ducks for the first 25 in order to get the geese but still managed 4 woodies. Havent seen any teal around and i know my buddies up north havent seen much either only few flocks. Just wish this streak wont end for me, opener didnt treat me to well. -
Just wondering if anyone has had this problem where the lake your hunting is the roost and loaf. How do ya tackle this i mean it took me some time finding it and i tried to get into the feilds they were working but no luck. How would you tackle this scenario let em be or hunt it. Any info would be appreciated!

Worked a lake hard last year in chisago county pulled out a 7 1/2 pounder know i have seen some bigger ones in there but just another thought!
-
I like plastics around here on certain lakes but once i go up north strick live bait ecspecially when fishing for slabs and gills.
-
From all the brands ive had from frabill, clam, otter, and eskimo. i still like the eskimo quickflip then it would have to be the otter series
-
Using any kind of gulp is a hity or miss for me id just get a scoop of crappie minnows and if your slaying the fish or not catching anything then id try the gulp prolly the blood red for cass. Live bait is still your best choice. A pretty good plastic thats hard to go wrong with is a ratso though but it alll depends if the fish are in a feeding frenzy if there not i still tip it with a a waxworm or larvae. Bestt way to find out though is to wet a line good luck!
