Creek Chub Pikie

Bought an 8 inch wooden Creek Chub Pikie on clearance the other day, mostly because I love big classic woodies (hold the dirty jokes,please), if nothing else, I'll hang it in the basement "museum". Question is "does anyone fish these?, would anyone like to report a great catch with one? isn't one of the major records caught with one of these? "

I have a few of those that I inherited from a relative of mine. He used them a lot in the 60's. He said the gold 8" pikie was his high production bait. I still throw them every once in a while. I usually work them with a fast retrieve. I've never caught anything but pike on them, but muskies really like to look at them. Especially in the fall. The complaint I always heard about those baits is you need to buy 3 of them in order to get 1 that works. I mainly throw them for the nostalgic factor.

Wood baits seem to have a natural movement that's hard to replicate, some of these baits today are almost too "mythodical" in their movement in the water. Take a wood bait like a Suick, each one needs a little finnessing, but the end result is a great presentation. Look at how well your old "Boy Scout" project Shakespeare Mouse knock-off did, I wish you would have made more.....

I'd say "T" the hooks to avoid unnecessary hook rash and use it! If it doesn't hold a real significant monitary value let's get it wet.

If your Lund Rebel is still water ready I could possibly be talked into going, my ride is going into storage Sat. I have spots close by you......
