Questions from a Newbie

Recommended Posts

I have never targeted the "fish of 10,000 casts" before, but I am planning on giving it a shot when the season opens.

A couple questions:

What lakes in the metro are good for tigers? pure-breds?

How does one go about fishing a bucktail? Just crank it in?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Johnny, I am relatively new to muskie fishing, but have been doing it passionately for 4 years now. Here are my responses to your quetsions, but other, more experienced, musky anglers may be of more help...

Lakes-

Minnetonka (both specicies)

Waconia (muskies)

Bush (Tigers)

Cedar (New Prague, Tigers)

Harriet (both)

White Bear Lake (I believe both, but not sure)

Bald Eagle (muskies for sure, maybe both)

Forest Lake

There are more, but these should get you started

Bucktails-

Try different things. I've had the most luck in mid summer to fall with speed. I crank as fast as I can. I have also had luck with adding a few pauses to the retrieve. Make sure you figure-8 at boatside before you bring it out of the water.

Good luck and have fun!
